An older post about the 'paper mirror' by metrokitty. That's why I really feel slightly disappointed in black comics artists that don't have many black folks in their stories. I want more paper mirror moments, folks!
Pandagon has Fun Home on its book club list. I hope that they discover Dykes to Watch Out For through Fun Home.

Heh. I wonder if American comics would be more popular if they allowed doujinshi with a wink and a nudge?

White people try to understand the dynamics of passing. My grandma's uncle tried to pass himself off as white so he wouldn't get in trouble for running white girls to the Peabody(he didn't totally succeed there) *shakes head* And there's nothing I hate more than folks being like "Oh, the constraints posed by the black community". If a white person makes fun of another white person, it's just folks. If one black person says something stupid, it's the whole black community. *shakes head*

I don't get what is so hard about figuring out what women want from comic books. When I open a comic book, I want a light entertainment. I want to laugh or cry or want someone to win or to lose. I agree about the fact that rape needs to be left out of it. Many women are rape survivors and don't want to be reminded of their trauma in funnybooks, and other women, like me, don't like the "the story is getting boring- throw in a rape" style of excecution.

However, I feel optimism for the future of comics. In this year, we have Fool's Gold, YU+ME, Templar Arizona and more books coming out from female artists. We have even more self published or web only work. These story tellers don't need to throw in random tits or rapes to get their point across, and they are really entertaining.

I think eventually superhero comics will shrink down to the size it is supposed to be - a small genre in a big pool of exciting innovative comics.
The YU+Me book will be avaliable April 1st. Better mark this on my calendar so I can be one of the first served.

Wow this NYCC stuff seems to have everybody. Alison Bechdel and Aline Crumb came. Hey, a new graphic memoir contact signed for Allison Bechdel? I haven't gotten fun home yet!
Fool's Gold volume 2 will be released Decemeber of this year. It seems like a long time, but it'll be December before we know it. I think Strawberry Panic will be out in November.
