I need more cash so I can buy comics. Note: an interesting post and comments thread.
She Hulk is apparently really fucked up. I think maybe superhero comics need to step awaaaay from the rape storyline. It's hard to create a sensitive depiction of rape in comics already- let alone shoe horning it in with a fantasy type story with a history of people shuffling around the storyline all the time.

On the bottom of this reviews page, a manga which I have forgotten the name, but am 'translating' as I want to boink my little sister is considered one of the worst. I was going to write about how Little Lulu is a better role model for young girls than Supergirl, but then I remembered that then I'd actually have to read supergirl. Suffice it to say, I really enjoyed the story in Lulu Goes Shopping where Lulu runs home crying because the boys called her homely, her mom gives her a makeover, and after much fighting and foolishness on the boys' part, Lulu decides to take that crap off, and play leapfrog instead. Moral: Beauty is well and good, but in it's place.
I finished Little Lulu goes Shopping. I may start collecting them. Light, fun and with good vintage cartooning as well.

The last post was my 200th post here. I read the first two books of Adolf. It's a classic, but it works best when you read it in order. Darn those libraries!

Jamar Nicholas will be at the tokyopop booth at the NYC comics con. Say what you will about tokyopop, the folks who think that everyone's manga love somehow takes away from American comics are wrong- this is expanding the amount of people who can work in American comics. Also, I got the first two books of Adolf(but it'll be weird reading them before the end) and a little lulu collection from the library.

The Ormes Society website is up! Please look around!

I was reading Black Jack Two Fisted Surgeon and the story dingoes really brought to me the strangeness of the style. The dingoes themselves look Disneylike, but the internal organs seen in this story are extremely realistic. It's similar to the series in general. The medical parts seem to be very down to earth(of course except for the face affliction one and the creation of pinoco) but the situations that get Blackjack in this medical morass tend to be things that don't happen very often to most of us- hostage situations, and more.

I got to the end of my Kare Kano supply, but I am pretty happy. The Arima arc is filling out nicely. The part earlier where Miyazawa's father's life was traced seems sort of like a practice for this. I also like how Tsuda manages to plan out the plotline so tightly. I would just make it up as I go especially for a story of this length.
Volume 16 was smooth like a knife through butter. Tsuda manages to not let our chracters off too easy, and her working of that visual metaphor is pretty skilled. I swore I read the whole volume in 6 minutes.

Up to volume 15! I love Tsuda's set ups, but I think that sometimes it's hard for her to follow through. For example, the Tsubasa and Kazuma arc was tied up too neatly for my taste, although it had good complexity throughout. I hope the Arima arc won't tie up too nicely, because child abuse isn't something you just heal from through love.

I really like how Tsuda uses pencil shaded drawings to emphasize a plot point. I'm on volume 15 now.
Tsuda is my manga god! I'm up to volume 12, and even though her work was really good in volume 1, she's only gotten better and better. Her use of collage is very good, and while earlier the motif was fakeness/etc, now the motif is more fear of adulthood, maybe. So good. *cried reading it* Tsuda is now my favorite mangaka.

I'm on volume 10(finally a new volume!) and I have to say that I love it when manga artists doodle in the margins. Hehehe, I wondered if Tsuda was a man or a woman too. I wonder if my comics are girly?
