Casual Games

I'm playing Flo Through Time. There are many other time travelers in this universe- cell phone guys in Ancient Egypt and Medieval Europe, etc. I understand that the appeal of casual games is that they are fast and cheap, so that's why the graphics aren't as advanced. I actually prefer more cartoony graphics. When they try to go polygonal like the Westward series, it just looks like 1st gen playstation graphics, and so looks less like a style and more like bad graphics.

Manga vs Anime

Manga wins for me. Take my favorite series Fruits Basket- in the anime, you get less than half the story. In the manga, you get the whole story. Same for Kare Kano. And Ouran is now up to the part where it's really getting good in the manga, whereas the anime was still in the slapstick phase when I left it.

I think maybe my preference for drama over action and slapstick is why I prefer manga. Slapstick is OK as a sort of garnish, but too much and it's like eating parsley as a main dish. And I like action if it has something to do with the plot- I want to see a fight because our hero must fight the Big Bad's plan to make orphans into Soylent Green, not MY PENIS IS BIG! NO MY PENIS IS BIGGER! NO IT'S NOT! LET'S FIGHT!

But drama- I can stand drama on almost anything. Manga can have a narrower audience, so they have more leeway to write about things I actually care about.

I think I'm getting into this

Afterschool Charisma- I initially started reading it because of the similarity of the premise to Clone High- a high school of clones... but it hits the shoujo manga angst buttons I love, and it has hints of science fiction too... I hope they put this out in GN form.

The scene where Mozart says he has been chosen for a second life... It seems chilling, like a form of madness, even though it's been drilled into them- your predecessor, your predecessor... That's a lot of pressure for anyone.

Reading IKKI

I'm glancing through the IKKI comics on the Viz website- favorites are I'll Give It My All Tomorrow and AfterSchool Charisma. Too bad they can't create something like this for Josei.. Hikaru no Hotaru in official English would be nice...

Well, I'll sigh and read this manga here... It has cute art.

An article on moe. Apparently merely saying the obvious has caused a firestorm in fandom.

Oh god, that's disturbing.

Also, the reason that most anime blogs suck is that most blog suck in general. This blog you are reading now sucks because I have the attention span of a gnat on meth.

I don't get it

Why vanity publish? Either get a publisher that will pay you cash money or distribute your work for free on the interwebs...I'm thinking more of your epic romance novel about how ghouls and housewives fall in love or historical fantasy based on what if the Memphis Yellow Fever Epidemic didn't happen than 'Grandma's Recipes' or 'Stupid Things My Kids Said', though.

A Kink Too Far

Really, dudes, I know we like to be all YAY KINKS, but it's pretty understandable that people would freak out about 12 year old sex. I mean, there are some kinks most don't want to read about, and that certainly ranks up there...

Then again, I'm less of the 'sexual freedom, yay!' type than the 'does your story make any sense whatsoever?' type, so...

Curious about Ratings...

I read Butterflies, Flowers and volume 2 of Future Diary today. Butterflies, Flowers is rated M despite the fact that the only nudity is basically a man taking his shirt off. There are some mild gay jokes [ha ha mr extreme sexual harasser! If you want a virgin, well...] and crossdressing, but personally, I don't think mention of gayness or crossdressing is deserving of an M and shrink wrap. I mean, we have tons of mention of crossdressing and gayness on that level in Ouran.

Future Diary only has an older teen rating, despite nudity{I think I saw a nipple], and more importantly, the fact that a junior high school student is running around murdering people with axes. Oh yea, and implication of past gang rape[...why the naked woman around a huge group of dudes while she's talking about them stealing her innocence otherwise?] and even a chained up woman wearing only underwear who has had her eye gouged out?

Personally, I think that's requiring a mature rating more than the light slapstick of Butterflies, Flowers...
